Aladin Left woven European tapestry cushion cover features the work of artist Vittorio Zechin. This scene is the left side of the work "One Thousand and One Nights" by Zechin. This work shows the procession of Aladin and his entourage of princes and princesses to ask for the hand in marriage of the Sultan's daughter, in this famous story originally in Arabic. Known as the Arabian Nights from the first English edition in 1706 we hear of stories and tales from folklore of the exotic Arabian lands. In Aladin's story, upon discovery of a magic lamp, he becomes rich and marries the Princess Badrouldabour. Zecchin was born in the glass-making island of Murano, and his artwork was influenced by the works of Gustav Klimt. The detail and richness of pattern and texture echoes the exotic tales from the book of Arabian Nights. The collage of faces looking directly at the viewer almost camouflaged into the scene with grapes overflowing, echoing the textures elsewhere is a a hallmark of the beautiful works of Zechin.
